Terms of Service
Version 2026-11-01 · in force since 1 November 2026 · previous versions
The short version: Startnest is a yearly subscription with a 14-day free trial — no card needed. You only pay if you subscribe, you can cancel any time, new customers can get their money back within 30 days of their first payment, and your data stays yours.
1. Who we are
Startnest is operated by unytverse ag, Schlyffistrasse 5, 8806 Bäch SZ, Switzerland (“we”, “us”). These terms are the agreement between you and us for using Startnest. Company details are in the imprint.
2. The service
Startnest is a personal start page in your browser: your links, groups and boards, and widgets such as weather, a calendar agenda, notes and to-dos, synced across your devices. Some widgets show information from third parties (for example weather and public holidays) — see section 12.
We keep improving Startnest, so features change, are added or are removed over time. We tell you in advance about changes that matter to you.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your Google account. Your email address is your Startnest account. Use a base address — addresses with a “+” alias aren’t accepted.
- An account is for one person. You must be at least 16 years old.
- For personal use. Startnest is for individuals, each for their own use — at home or at work, including for your job or your own business. It isn’t for organisations: a company, school or other organisation may not buy, provide or manage Startnest for its staff or members, and you may not use one account as a team, share your access, resell Startnest or build it into a product or service of your own. Sharing a board with up to two people, as the app offers, is fine. For use by a team or organisation, write to us.
- Keep access to your Google account safe; anything done while signed in counts as done by you.
- If you change your Google address, contact us and we’ll move your account to the new address.
4. Subscription, trial and payment
- Price: USD 24 per year, including any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live. The price is shown before you subscribe.
- Free trial: 14 days with everything included, starting when you create your account. No payment method is needed, and nothing is charged when the trial ends. We remind you in the app and by email three days before and on the last day. To keep using Startnest afterwards, you subscribe; the first payment is taken when you subscribe.
- One free trial per person. If you had a trial or a subscription before — also with an account you deleted — you can subscribe right away, without a new trial.
- Trials started with a card before 31 October 2026 continue as agreed then: the card is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before.
- Renewal: the subscription renews automatically every year until you cancel.
- Price changes: we tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies. It applies from your next renewal; you can cancel before then.
- Our reseller: purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited (“Paddle”), our online reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle takes your payment, issues invoices and handles sales tax/VAT; Paddle’s buyer terms apply to the purchase itself.
5. Cancelling
Cancel any time in the app’s settings. During the free trial there’s nothing to cancel — without a subscription, nothing is charged. If you cancel a subscription, it stays active until the end of the year you paid for and isn’t renewed. Your boards and links stay; you can come back any time.
Deleting your account (in the app’s settings) removes your data right away and cancels a running subscription immediately; the rest of the paid year ends with it and is not refunded (see section 6).
6. Refunds
New customers can ask for a full refund within 30 days of their first payment, without giving a reason, by writing to us or to Paddle. The money goes back to the original payment method. After that, payments are non-refundable — including renewals and unused time after cancelling or deleting your account. This doesn’t affect rights you have under mandatory consumer law, such as the statutory right of withdrawal for consumers in the EU and UK, which Paddle handles.
7. Your content
Your links, boards, notes, to-dos, settings and the images you upload belong to you. You allow us to store and process them only as far as needed to run Startnest for you — we don’t publish them, sell them or use them for advertising. You can download all of it at any time in the app’s settings.
Images you upload as link icons must be yours or allowed to be used, and must be lawful. Icons are delivered through public, hard-to-guess addresses so your browser can load them quickly; if we receive a valid notice that an image infringes rights or is unlawful, we may remove it and every copy of it.
8. Fair use
Startnest is made for the everyday use of one person — for yourself, at home or for your work (section 3). Use it lawfully. In particular, don’t
- try to break, overload, scan or reverse-engineer the service, or get at other people’s data;
- use it to store or distribute unlawful content, malware or material that infringes others’ rights;
- use it in an automated way or in bulk — for example scripts that create links, boards or requests en masse, or using Startnest as storage or a backend for something else — or automate access in other ways that place an unreasonable load on us or on the third-party services behind the widgets;
- create several accounts to get repeated free trials or to get around the limits below, or resell access to Startnest.
Technical limits. So that Startnest stays fast for everyone, an account holds up to 2,000 links, 100 boards and 500 groups, with up to 100 elements per board. Normal use doesn’t come close to this; the app tells you when a limit is reached. Further limits protect the service, for example on the size of a single note, on the number of news feeds and on how many requests can be made in a short time.
If use goes beyond fair use. If an account is used in a way that breaks these rules or puts an unreasonable load on the service, we tell you first and give you the chance to change it. If it continues, we may slow down (throttle) the account’s requests or suspend the account (section 9). In urgent cases — for example an attack or a risk to other users — we may act right away and tell you afterwards.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close accounts at our own discretion, at any time — in particular if these terms are broken, in cases of abuse or fraud, or to protect the service and other users. Where possible, we tell you first. You may end the agreement at any time by cancelling or deleting your account.
10. Inactive accounts
An account that never had a subscription or free access — at most a free trial — is deleted automatically after 12 months without a visit, with everything in it. Accounts that have or had a subscription are not affected by this.
11. Availability
We work to keep Startnest available, fast and safe, and announce planned maintenance in the app. Startnest is provided “as is” and “as available”; we don’t promise uninterrupted or error-free availability.
12. Information from third parties
Some widgets show information we obtain from third parties — for example weather (MET Norway), public and school holidays (OpenHolidays) and the calendars you connect. We show it as received and can’t guarantee it is complete, correct or current; please don’t rely on it where accuracy is critical. Links on your page lead to websites we don’t control.
13. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for any damage arising from or in connection with Startnest, its availability or the information shown in it — direct or indirect, including lost profits and lost data. Where the law does not allow liability to be excluded (for example for intent or gross negligence), we are liable only to the extent the law requires.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We tell you about changes in the app before they take effect. By continuing to use Startnest after a change takes effect, you accept the new version. If you don’t agree, stop using Startnest and cancel your subscription. Every version stays available under previous versions.
15. Law and courts
Swiss law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Courts at the seat of unytverse ag (Freienbach SZ) have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you can also sue at your place of residence, and the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence continue to apply.
